Cost and payment
How much does artificial turf cost?
Installed turf in Tampa Bay commonly runs about $8 to $18 per square foot, and putting greens run more. The price depends on the product, removal and base work, access and the size of the area. After we measure, your proposal shows the price for each area line by line.
What moves the price up or down?
Mostly the square footage, what has to come out first, how much grading and base work the yard needs, how easy it is to get equipment in, and which product you choose. Extras like edging, stepping stones or putting cups are listed as their own lines so you can see them.
Is the on-site visit really free?
Yes. We come out, measure every area and talk through options with you. There is no charge for the visit or the proposal, and no obligation.
How do payments work?
For most residential projects, a deposit at signing reserves your install date and lets us order materials, and the balance is due at the final walkthrough. The exact amounts are written on your proposal.
How long is a proposal good for?
Thirty days from the date on the proposal. After that we re-check material pricing before you sign.
The visit and installation
What happens at the on-site visit?
We walk the yard with you and talk through how your family uses it: where the kids play, where the dog runs, sun and shade, drainage, sprinkler heads and access. Every area is measured with Moasure digital measuring, including slopes and grade.
How long does installation take?
It depends on the square footage, removal and base work, and whether pavers are part of the job. Your proposal includes a working-day estimate for your project, and we confirm the start date before materials are ordered.
Do you remove the old grass or surface?
Yes. Removal and haul-away are listed as their own line on your proposal, so you can see what is coming out and how it is handled.
What if you find something unexpected during the install?
We stop and show you. Any change to the scope or price is written up as a change order, and nothing moves forward until you approve it.
Can you work around trees, beds and the pool?
Yes. Cut-ins around palms, trees and utility boxes are included, and we can edge turf against pavers, pool coping and planting beds.
What do you put under the turf?
A 4-inch compacted crushed-concrete base, weed barrier, 6-inch galvanized nails and properly bonded seams. The parts you never see are the reason it still looks good years later.
Turf in Florida
Does artificial turf get hot in Florida?
Any turf warms up in direct summer sun. Cooling infill such as HydroChill is designed to help bring the surface temperature down, and a quick rinse helps on the hottest afternoons. For areas with full afternoon sun, we will walk through the options on your visit.
What happens when it storms?
Water drains through the turf backing into the compacted base. We grade before the base goes in, and if we see a low spot or drainage problem on the visit, we point it out and price the fix on your proposal.
How do I take care of it?
Blow off leaves, rinse it now and then, and brush the busiest areas occasionally to keep the fibers standing up. We leave you a written care guide at the final walkthrough.
Which turf brands do you install?
Real Turf and Turf USA systems, including Real Turf Comfort, Golf Tour Putt and Turf USA Pet N’ Play, with HydroChill or TºCool cooling infill. Your proposal names the exact product for each area.
Kids, pets and play areas
Is turf safe for kids and pets?
That is a big reason families choose it. Pet N’ Play is made for yards shared by children and pets, and we are happy to send the manufacturer’s spec sheet for any product we recommend so you can review it before you decide.
Will pet turf smell?
Pick up solid waste as usual and rinse the area regularly. The fully permeable backing lets liquid drain through rather than sit on the surface, and an enzyme cleaner on a schedule keeps it fresh. We start you off with a treatment at install.
Will my dog dig it up?
There is no soil at the surface to dig into, and the edges are fastened down. A determined digger can still work at an edge, so we pay extra attention to perimeters along fences and gates.
How fast does pet turf drain?
Turf USA lists the Pet N’ Play backing at about 85 inches per hour. Actual drainage also depends on the base and grading, which is why we build both before the turf goes down.
What is fall height on a play area?
It is the height a child could fall from on a piece of equipment, such as the top deck of a fort. The safety surface has to be tested to protect at that height, so it is the first thing we measure. We provide the manufacturer’s tested fall-height documentation before install.
Do you work with schools and commercial properties?
Yes. We provide line-item proposals and the documentation facility teams and administrators need for their files.
Putting greens
How big should my green be?
It depends on the space and how you will use it. We stake out the shape with you on site so you can see it in the yard before anything is priced.
Can you add slopes and breaks?
Yes. Contours are built into the base before the turf goes down. Tell us how challenging you want it, and we will shape it to match.
How do I maintain a putting green?
Keep leaves and debris off, brush it now and then, and top up the sand infill over time if it thins. The care guide we leave covers it.
Pavers and pool decks
Travertine or porcelain?
Both work well in Tampa Bay. Travertine is natural stone with a classic look around pools. Porcelain is more uniform and comes in many colors and finishes. We bring samples and talk through how each one fits your yard.
Can pavers go over my existing concrete?
Sometimes. It depends on the condition of the slab and on the height at doors, drains and the pool. We check on the visit and tell you which approach makes sense.
Do you seal pavers?
Sealing can be included with a new installation. Ask us about your existing pavers as well, and we will tell you what they need.
Can you combine pavers and turf?
Yes, and that is a lot of what we do: stepping stones set into turf, turf strips between pavers, and pool decks that run straight into a turf lawn.
Warranties
What warranty do I get?
Two, both in writing: the manufacturer’s product warranty, which varies by product and is listed on your proposal, plus our five-year workmanship warranty on the installation. We register the manufacturer warranty in your name at the final walkthrough.
What does the workmanship warranty cover?
Five years on our installation, covering seams, edges, wrinkles and base settling. It does not cover misuse, sharp objects, heat reflected from windows, flooding or storm surge, pets digging, or work done by others.
Does a putting green have the same warranty as a lawn?
Not always. Putting turf carries its own manufacturer warranty, which can differ from lawn turf. We list the exact term on your proposal, along with our five-year workmanship warranty.
